Published by Editions XXe Siècle, Paris and the New York Graphic Society, Greenwich, Connecticut; Printed by L'Imprimerie Union, Paris, 1959. Excerpted from the volume (translated from French), From this book it was printed thirty copies on paper of Arches containing an original engraving by Georges Braque numbered from 1 to 300 copies constituting the original edition, including three hundred for Mr. Hazan, publisher in Paris; three hundred for A. Zwemmer, published in London; and, three hundred for the New York Graphic Society. Sixty copies of H.C. brands are reserved for the author and the publisher.
GEORGES BRAQUE (1882-1963) was a major 20th-century French painter, collagist, draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor. His most notable contributions were in his alliance with Fauvism from 1905, and the role he played in the development of Cubism. Braque's work between 1908 and 1912 is closely associated with that of his colleague Pablo Picasso. Their respective Cubist works were indistinguishable for many years, yet the quiet nature of Braque was partially eclipsed by the fame and notoriety of Picasso.
